Anyone handling food in retail or working in retail  food preparation areas should have a basic understanding of food hygiene or staff may end up making customers sick.  For hospitality click here
In the retail store, the top of the retail food safety pyramid is the Food Safety Supervisor.  In some states of Australia it is mandatory for a qualified food safety supervisor to be on duty at all time. This qualification requires that you demonstrate workplace tasks and have them signed off by another food safety supervisor.  Once you become a qualified food safety supervisor the onus of responsibility for food safety for the retail business rests on your shoulders so to cover yourself is to make sure that everyone in the retail business has at least the non accredited Food Hygiene for Food Handlers qualification.)
